Gujarat is set to strengthen its position as a key automobile manufacturing hub with Maruti Suzuki's announcement of a Rs 35,000 crore investment to build a second car manufacturing plant at Khoraj, near Gandhinagar.
The new facility will have an eventual annual production capacity of 10 lakh vehicles. The first phase of production is expected to begin by FY 2029, with the plant comprising four units, each capable of producing 2.5 lakh cars annually. This project is expected to create direct employment for over 12,000 people, along with substantial indirect work opportunities through ancillary units. The plant aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Make in India, Made for the World." Gujarat
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted the project’s importance in strengthening India’s automobile manufacturing corridor. The state’s policy-driven governance, strong infrastructure, and long-standing ties with Japan in manufacturing are key factors in its success. An MoU for the plant was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024.
