Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has officially launched its first JLR car, the Range Rover Evoque, from the Tata Motors - JLR factory in Panapakkam, Ranipet, located 90 km west of Chennai.
The inauguration of the completely knocked down (CKD) vehicle plant was conducted by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who also drove the first car for a short distance inside the factory. This marks a significant milestone for Tata Motors as it becomes the sixth automobile major to establish manufacturing operations in the state, joining the ranks of Hyundai, Renault, Nissan, BMW, and VinFast.
The state-of-the-art plant is part of Tata Motors’ ongoing commitment to expand its manufacturing footprint in India. The company has announced an investment of Rs 9,000 crore for the project, which will be implemented over several years. This facility is expected to enhance the production capabilities of JLR vehicles, creating jobs and contributing to the growth of the automotive sector in Tamil Nadu.
