Volkswagen has begun local assembly of its premium SUV, the Tayron R-Line, in India at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra.
The move is a key part of the company's strategy to make German-engineered vehicles more accessible to Indian customers, especially in the growing premium segment. Positioned as Volkswagen India’s most premium SUV, the Tayron R-Line features a seven-seater layout, a sporty design, and everyday practicality. The model is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2026, less than a year after its global debut, highlighting the company's focus on faster localisation and market responsiveness.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, emphasised that the Tayron R-Line is designed to meet the lifestyle needs of premium SUV buyers in India. Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, added that local assembly is crucial for improving accessibility and driving growth in the Indian market.
