Astra Rafael Communication System (ARC), a joint venture (JV) between Astra Microwave and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel, inaugurated a new facility at Hardware Technology Park in Telangana.

The JV of 51:49 percent is in line with the government's ‘Make in India’ initiative, and will invest in high-end technology and advanced production techniques to design, develop and manufacture state-of-the-art Tactical Communication systems (BNET) for the Indian Armed Forces.

The JV’s focus is on leveraging technological ability and indigenous manufacturing capability, combined with Rafael's technology expertise, to support requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.

ARC will be India's first private sector company to manufacture cutting-edge Software Defined Radios in multiple variants at its facility spread across an area of over 20,000 sq ft. It will also be involved in development and manufacture of a wide range of other advanced capabilities, with the aim of opening new export markets.

The facility has been set up with an investment of Rs 35 crore and started its operations with USD 30 million order to be delivered within 24 months. An R&D facility is also being set up for innovations in new areas.

The Central government is going in for a major push on infrastructure development and implementation of various Centrally-sponsored schemes in the two newly-created Union territories (UTs) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh. The UTs will come into existence from 31 October 2019.

The Centre is keen that all schemes and programmes to be implemented in the two UTs should be done within a stipulated time-bound manner. The Centre is working closely with the J&K administration, which has constituted three separate committees to examine various issues like the transition of Jammu & Kashmir from state to UT, allocation and distribution of funds and division of different assets, including staff, between J&K and Ladakh.
