Bharat Earth Movers (BEML), a Defence PSU, has signed a memorandu of understanding (MoU) with TuTr Hyperloop, an IIT Madras– incubated deep-tech startup, to jointly develop India’s first indigenously designed Hyperloop transportation system.
Under the partnership, BEML will serve as the principal manufacturing partner for TuTr Hyperloop. The initial focus will be on building a prototype pod capable of carrying passengers and cargo at high speeds, integrating Maglev and LIM technologies into its propulsion architecture.
The MoU was signed by senior representatives of both organisations, with IIT Madras Director Prof V Kamakoti highlighting TuTr’s mission to convert scientific research into transformative transport solutions. The collaboration marks a significant milestone towards commercial-scale indigenous Hyperloop deployment in India.
Hyperloop is a high-speed transport concept where passenger or cargo pods travel through sealed tubes under near-vacuum conditions, using magnetic levitation (Maglev) and linear induction motor (LIM) propulsion for rapid, efficient travel. Under the partnership, BEML will serve as the principal manufacturing partner for TuTr Hyperloop.
