BHEL - Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) JV is scouting for an overseas technology
partner for its proposed 250 MW manufacturing facility to process silicon
wafers, solar cells and PV modules, which is likely to entail an outlay of Rs 2,000 crore.
The technology partner is likely to be offered a stake in the proposed power
project. However, the details of the BHEL-BEL JV plan are yet to be firmed up.
Even, location for the manufacturing facility is yet to be finalised.
In March 2009, the two companies had signed an MoU for the facility, with an
estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore. The plan is part of the National Climate
Change Policy in Solar Mission which aims to add 20,000 MW of solar power to the
national grid by 2020.
