The board of directors of Bokaro Power Supply Co
Ltd (BPSCL), a 50:50 joint venture between SAIL and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC),
has cleared the proposal to set up a 500 MW power plant at Bokaro in Jharkhand.
The detailed feasibility report for this project
is being prepared by Mecon which is almost ready and financial details are
currently being worked out. The proposed project to be developed in an area
of 750 acres will have two units of 250 MW each, entailing an investment of
Rs.2,200 crore.
The proposed new power
capacity is of great importance to Bokaro Steel Plant as it will increase its
hot metal production capacity to 6.5 million tpa from the current level of 4.5
million tpa under the SAIL Corporate Plan 2011-12.
