BSNL and MTNL are together planning to invest
nearly Rs.20,000 crore to install an addition 60 million lines in the next three
to four years. Around 50 per cent of these proposed connections will be provided
in rural areas.
The government has also targeted of
achieving 250 million phones (including about 200 million mobile phones) in the
country by 2007.
