BSNL on 17 September 2006, announced an investment of Rs.17,000 crore by March 2007 to increase GSM, CDMA and
broadband services.
Of the total investment, around
Rs.6,000 crore has been earmarked for GSM expansion, about Rs.3,000 crore will
be for expanding broadband services and similar investments will be made in CDMA
base services in various parts of the country.
BSNL will also be investing about
Rs.1,000 crore on the data record based billing system. The entire investments
will be funded through internal accruals and the company is also looking at
increasing revenues from value-added services (VAS) to up to Rs.500 crore from
the current base of Rs.90 crore.
The investments in GSM mobile
expansion with an investment of Rs.6,000 crore is a part of BSNL's total
investment of over Rs.20,000 crore in expanding GSM base by over 63 million
lines for a period of three years.
