The Ministry of Railways has announced a significant green energy milestone with Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), Varanasi, commissioning India’s first removable solar panel system between railway tracks.
The 70-mtrs. installation comprises 28 panels with a total capacity of 15 KWp, designed to be removed when required, ensuring operational flexibility.
Meanwhile, Indian Railways has also advanced freight logistics. On August 10, it flagged off the first industrial salt-loaded rake from Sanosara (Bhuj-Naliya section) to Dahej. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said this initiative will open new avenues for the region’s salt industry. The Ahmedabad Division confirmed that the rake carried 3,851.2 tonne of industrial salt over 673.57 km, generating Rs 31.69 lakh in freight earnings.
Western Railway also commissioned the first 2x25 kV Electric Traction System on the NagdaKhachrod section, enhancing power efficiency for freight movement.
