Bhopal is set to become the site of Madhya Pradesh’s first maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility for aircraft, slated for completion by 2026 at Raja Bhoj Airport.
The project, estimated at Rs 25 crore, is being developed on a 1.5-acre plot and will be equipped to handle a range of aircraft—from regional jets to narrow-body planes—for both domestic and international carriers. The MRO facility will include dedicated hangars, workshops, and equipment for comprehensive aircraft servicing. It will also feature a training centre to support skill development among technical personnel, benefiting students from local engineering colleges and technical institutes.
Bhopal's central location is expected to support airline operations across all regions of India and help reduce aircraft downtime and operational costs. The facility aligns with the government’s vision for increased self-reliance in aviation services and aims to attract airlines from neighbouring states. The project is expected to generate direct and indirect employment, boost related sectors such as logistics and hospitality, and comply with global aviation safety and environmental standards.
