Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is preparing for a major infrastructure upgrade under Project Anantha, with the Rs 600 crore first-phase airside development expected to begin within weeks.
The work, awarded to ITD Cementation India and subcontracted to ULCCS, includes reconstruction of the Terminal 2 apron, redesigning airside drainage for better monsoon resilience, additional check-in counters at Terminal 1, and a new knowledge centre. Essential infrastructure such as ATC buildings, hangars, and rescue facilities will also be developed.
Adani Airport Holdings (AAHL), which operates the airport, has committed a Rs 1,300 crore investment to expand passenger handling capacity from 3.2 million to nearly 12 million annually. Funding comes partly from USD 750 million raised via external commercial borrowings for upgrades across six Adani-managed airports.
While airside development is moving ahead, city-side projects, including an underground parking facility and a five-star hotel, are delayed due to pending environmental clearance. The revised master plan is awaiting approval from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
