Bihar authorities have successfully energised a 132 kV transmission line and a 100 MVA transformer at the Kajra Solar Power Plant in Lakhisarai district, marking a key milestone in one of India's largest battery-storage backed solar projects.
Managed by Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) and Bihar State Power Transmission Company(BSPTCL), this development allows power from the plant to flow into the state grid, ensuring continuous and reliable electricity for local consumers. The plant’s integrated battery storage system, capable of supplying power for four to five hours during peak demand without sunlight, will help reduce grid instability and outages.
The first phase of the project, featuring a 185 MW solar array and 254 MWh storage, has cost Rs 1,810 crore. The second phase, adding another 116 MW and 241 MWh of storage, is set to be completed by January 2027. Once fully operational, the Kajra plant will generate 301 MW and store 495 MWh of energy.
