Union Minister Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma has announced that the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) is set for a brownfield expansion that will increase its production capacity from 5.25 million tonne per annum (MTPA) to 7.55 MTPA.
The expansion is aligned with India's goal of becoming more self-reliant in steel production and supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving 300 MTPA steel capacity by 2030. The project will involve significant capital investment, advanced technologies, and the creation of thousands of jobs. Approx. 2,500 permanent jobs and nearly 10,000 indirect employment opportunities will be generated, contributing to Jharkhand's economic growth.
The proposed expansion is expected to attract an investment of around Rs 25,000 crore to the state. Varma emphasised that discussions for the project are ongoing and reiterated the government's commitment to its realisation.
