The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is progressing rapidly, with 80 percent of the excavation work completed at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station in Mumbai, according to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation of India (NHSRCL).
The 21-km underground and undersea tunnel from BKC to Shilphata involves 16 km being excavated using Tunnel Boring Machines and five km with the New Austrian Tunnelling Method. Base slab casting has begun at both ends of the BKC station, situated 100 ft. below ground. Additional slab work has been completed at Vikhroli and Sawli shafts, essential for tunnel operations.
Simultaneously, elevated station construction in Thane, Virar, and Boisar is accelerating, with 44 km of piers already cast. In Palghar district, excavation of seven mountain tunnels is underway, along with bridge construction over the Vaitarna, Ulhas, and Jagani rivers. The Rs 1.08 lakh crore project is jointly funded by the Government of India (Rs 10,000 crore) and the state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra (Rs 5,000 crore each).
