Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) has successfully installed the first pier cap for the Phase II Pink Line viaduct on 28 August, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the city’s metro expansion.

The pier cap, weighing 80 tonne, was manufactured at the Kalamassery casting yard and placed atop pillar number 281 on Infopark Expressway using a heavy-duty crane. Metro officials, along with representatives of the contracting firm, attended the installation ceremony. According to KMRL, additional pier caps will be installed on pillars up to number 284 over the coming days, while necessary traffic regulations will be enforced to ensure smooth operations during construction. So far, 22 pillars have been completed for the Pink Line, underscoring steady progress in the project.

The milestone strengthens confidence in timely project delivery, enhancing connectivity to Infopark and nearby regions. Officials emphasised that the installation marks the start of a crucial stage in viaduct construction, enabling further structural advancements and keeping the Phase II expansion on schedule.
