On 11 September, 2023, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved nine projects with an investment proposal of Rs 1,01,804 crore in Odisha. These projects received a green nod at the meeting of the high-level clearance authority (HLCA) presided over by the Chief Minister of the state government.
The industrial units will come up in Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Bhadrak, Ganjam and Koraput districts, and have the potential to generate employment opportunities for around 28,565 people across various sectors. It would further strengthen the state's position as a major industrial hub in Eastern India.
Out of these nine projects, the HLCA has approved the first proposal of JSW Utkal Steel (JUSL) to double the capacity of its planned integrated steel plant (ISP) at Jatadhar in Jagatsinghpur district from current 12 mtpa to 24 mtpa. The project has an investment proposal of Rs 75,000 crore.
Secondly, Avaada Electro’s project was granted approval to set up a manufacturing facility for ingots, wafers, solar cells, and modules in Haldiapada in Khurda district with an investment of Rs 11,300 crore.
The third proposal has been sanctioned to Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) for setting up a polyester products manufacturing facility in the textile park at Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak district. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4,377.46 crore. Jindal Ferrous, MSP Metallics, L&T Energy Green Tech, Berger Paints, Petronet LNG have also received approval to set up manufacturing facilities in the state.
