Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has successfully commissioned Taxiway M, a major upgrade to its airside infrastructure.
The new taxiway aims to improve airside efficiency and operational resilience at one of the world’s busiest single-runway airports, which handles over 950 aircraft movements daily. The airport had historically relied on a single Parallel Taxi Track (PTT) N-N1, which led to challenges due to sustained high traffic and limited maintenance opportunities. Taxiway M addresses this issue by providing additional full-length taxiway connectivity. However, the project faced complexities, such as the need to relocate the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) building to ensure the taxiway’s full-length alignment.
The project was completed in multiple phases, with the first connecting Runway 14-32 and the second establishing a continuous parallel taxiway network. Despite challenges, including uncharted utilities and working in a constrained environment, the project was delivered on schedule, with Taxiway M being commissioned on 25 December, 2025.
