After decades of planning, the much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to begin commercial operations on December 25.
The greenfield airport, developed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), will mark a significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity, reducing travel time, and boosting tourism. On its first day, NMIA will handle 30 air traffic movements, including arrivals and departures of major carriers like IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Star Air. The airport is expected to alleviate congestion at Mumbai’s existing international airport and establish a multi-airport system for the region."
The airport features a lotus-inspired terminal design and will serve as a catalyst for regional economic growth, benefiting cities like Pune, Thane, and Raigad. Vijay Singhal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, stated, "The commencement of operations at the Navi Mumbai International Airport reflects the Maharashtra government and CIDCO's sustained commitment to infrastructure development.
