Rajasthan is set to enhance its logistics and industrial capabilities with the development of an inland port in Jalore.
Announced by Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat on November 18, the project aims to improve trade by connecting the state directly to the Arabian Sea via Gujarat's Kandla Port. Built along a 262 km waterway, the port will link Jalore to the Gulf of Kutch, reducing logistics costs and easing pressure on overloaded road and rail networks. The project will involve significant dredging work worth over Rs 10,000 crore.
The development will provide new opportunities for industries in textiles, stone, oilseeds, and more, while benefiting the HPCL-Rajasthan refinery. Estimated to create employment for around 50,000 people, the project will also promote the growth of warehouses, coldchain facilities, and industrial hubs. Rajasthan is expected to provide 14 km of land for the port, with the final project report due after site inspections
IIT Madras has submitted the draft detailed project report (DPR), which is currently under review by state officials. After site inspections and incorporating the state's feedback, a final DPR will be prepared, paving the way for the project to progress.
