On 20 September 2006, the central
government cleared Rs.1,200 crore Brihan Mumbai Storm Water Drainage (Brimstowad) project.
The Brimstowad project proposes a
complete upgradation of the city's storm water drains to prevent water logging
and flooding for the next 25 years. The project also received technical clearances.
The project is
being funded by the Centre itself outside JNURM.
Clearances for the Rs.1,600 crore
Middle Vaitarana water supply project and the Rs.1,834 crore Mumbai Urban
Infrastructure project are expected by November 2006. The negotiations for
Phase II of the Mumbai Urban Transport project (MUTP) will be completed by October
2006.
It is learnt that, the state
government has not made much progress at the centre on other JNURM projects
including the Rs.2,376 crore Mumbai sewerage disposal project, the Rs.1,298
crore Mithi river project and the Bandra-Worli sea link project. The proposals
for these projects were submitted in March 2006.
