The Centre has sanctioned a Rs 459 crore airport project at Bihta, on the outskirts of Patna, marking a major infrastructure initiative for Bihar.
The airport, located 25 km from Patna, will be developed by a Russian firm, Joint Stock Company “Industrial Association,” as per a letter of intent from the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The project includes an integrated terminal, utility building, elevated road, and IT systems. It aims to complement the existing Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport by accommodating larger aircraft, with completion expected by 2026.
The Bihar government has secured 108 acres for the airport, which currently hosts an Indian Air Force base. The infrastructure development also includes an elevated road from Danapur to Bihta. Plans for additional greenfield airports in Rajgir, Bhagalpur, and an international airport near Patna are underway.
