The Centre has provided relief to renewable energy developers by granting additional time to projects that missed commissioning deadlines due to delays in transmission approvals.
In a recent clarification, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced that delays caused by restrictions on overhead transmission lines in Rajasthan and Gujarat will be treated as force majeure, allowing developers to revise their commissioning schedules without facing penalties or contract terminations. These delays were linked to a Supreme Court case involving the protection of the Great Indian Bustard, a critically endangered species, whose habitat overlaps with solar and wind corridors.
As the court issued its final order in December, the government has moved to regularise project timelines and unblock stalled capacity, offering much-needed relief to developers in key renewable-rich states.
