The Union government has granted in-principle approval for two key projects in Amaravati, marking a renewed push to resume the development of the long-pending capital.
The Ministry of Finance's Department of Expenditure issued two memos approving the construction of a Common Central Secretariat and General Pool Residential Accommodation for Central government employees. The total project cost is pegged at Rs 2,787 crore, with Rs 1,458 crore allocated for the Central Secretariat building and Rs 1,329 crore for the residential complex.
Both projects, originally proposed in 2018, had remained stalled due to political and administrative uncertainty over Amaravati's future as the state capital. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will execute both projects.
Union Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar welcomed the approvals and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
