The Chandigarh administration has granted conceptual approval for the Master Plan of Panjab University’s Sector-25 South Campus, enabling a major expansion to enhance student welfare and academic infrastructure.
Designed with a student-centric vision, the plan includes nine new academic blocks, supplementing the 12 existing ones that house 16 departments across disciplines such as healthcare, business, sciences, and social sciences. A dedicated library-cum-reading hall will support academic needs by offering quiet study zones near departments.
A 2.75-acre recreation area and a student activity centre will foster extracurricular and cultural engagement. To improve accessibility, a multi-level basement parking for 700 vehicles is planned near the UIET gate, aiming to create a safer, pedestrian-friendly campus. Residential facilities will be expanded, including four girls’ hostels, two boys’ hostels, and an international hostel, three of which are already functional.
Key projects underway include a 2,200-seat auditorium for academic and cultural events and a four-storey tech block near the Dental Hospital to support start-ups and innovation. The plan was reviewed and approved by the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee and the Chief Administrator, marking a milestone for the university’s infrastructure growth.
