The long-awaited State Institute of Disaster Management (SIDM), to be developed in Nagpur's MIHAN region, is set to begin construction by mid-November 2025.
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro), the implementing agency for the Rs 187.73 crore project, confirmed that the basic structural framework and detailed design plans have been completed. These documents have now been submitted to the state disaster management committee for review. Officials stated that the committee will provide feedback, following which necessary revisions will be made before finalising the design. Once approved, the tendering process and other formalities will commence.
The SIDM will be constructed on a 10-acre plot in the non-SEZ area of MIHAN under Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC). Functioning as the state’s nodal agency for disaster preparedness, training, and planning, SIDM will complement the operational State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in Mumbai. While SEOC focuses on real-time disaster response, SIDM will support long-term initiatives including research, training, simulations, and policy development.
