Chemplast Sanmar, the flagship company of Sanmar Group, has begun trial
production at its greenfield PVC (poly vinyl chloride) plant at Cuddalore, Tamil
Nadu on 9 September 2009. The plant is likely to be commissioned shortly.
The Rs 600 crore plant has a production capacity of 1.70 lakh tonne. It has a
state-of-the-art marine terminal facility at Chitrapettai village for importing
the vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), the basic raw material for PVC production,
from places like Qatar and Japan. The company has set up a Rs 30 crore zero
liquid discharge (ZLD) unit to completely re-cycle and re-use the liquid trade
effluents generated, including solid waste, inside the plants.
The water requirement of 3,500 kilo litre per day, for the PVC plant is met
by a de-salination plant, set up at an investment of Rs 20 crore.
