The Government of Chhattisgarh has planned to develop an Aerocity near Swami Vivekananda Airport in Nava Raipur to facilitate international aviation connectivity. The objective of the initiative is to promote passenger facilities and commercial development in the airport region with international standards, while also creating jobs for the locals.
The Aerocity will be developed at Layer 3 in Atal Nagar of the city. The Aerocity is a development project which will be built on 216.63 acres in the villages of Baroda and Ramchandi in Nava Raipur. The initial phase of development will cover around 24.85 acres and the layout plan encompasses 15.45 acres of land owned by the state government.
As some of the property is privately-owned, the project will be constructed in accordance with the city's development plan. The proposal would include four commercial plots ranging from 0.62 acres to 3.01 acres,a shopping complex of 0.82 acres, and 1.44 acres of property set aside for a hotel.
On 19 September, 2023, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel laid the foundation stone for this project. The government has allocated nearly Rs two crore in the FY24 budget to begin project work.
As part of the plan, the state government will submit a proposal to the Union government for the permission to construct a second runway at the Swami Vivekananda airport.
