Coal India (CIL) is setting up two thermal power plants of 800 MW each, at an investment of Rs 11,363.18 crore. The plants will come up at Sundergarh, in Odisha.
An initial amount of Rs 1,019 crore has been approved by the company to start the construction.
The project will be set up by Coal India’s wholly owned subsidiary, Mahanadi Coalfields.
CIL has proposed to invest Rs 6,000 crore in the financial year 2015-16 towards capex. It aims to achieve one billion tonne target output, and Mahanadi Coalfields is expected to be a key aspect in achieving the target.
