The Cochin International Airport (CIAL) is likely to launch its business jet terminal by June 2022 despite COVID-19 related challenges.
The business jet terminal, which is being constructed at the existing Terminal-2 (T-2), will be launched three months ahead of the scheduled deadline and will feature five-star facilities for chartered flight passengers in both international and domestic sectors.
CIAL’s proposed terminal will be serving both international and domestic chartered flights and will be the first luxurious one in the country with facilities like conference halls, lounges, restaurant, personalised luggage handlers and even luxury cars for their movement between the aircraft and the terminal.
Thirty percent of the one lakh sq ft T-2 will be used for Block-I which will be converted as an exclusive business jet terminal with three lounges.
The proposed Block-III will have an area of 60,000 sq ft where CIAL is planning to build a transit hotel with 50 budget bath-attached rooms for the passengers who intend to have a short/overnight stay at the airport. While the works on business jet terminal and the VVIP safe house are proceeding, the budget transit hotel is yet to begin.
CIAL plans to apply the dynamic tariff concept; wherein the rent will be calculated on hour-based scale.
