The Rs 646-crore Coimbatore 24/7 drinking water supply project, being executed by Suez, is expected to be completed by January 2026, covering 60 wards within the pre-2011 city limits.
Originally scheduled for August 2025, delays arose due to pending approvals for pipeline works under State and National Highways jurisdictions. The project includes laying 1,822 km of pipelines, constructing 33 overhead service reservoirs, installing water meters, and commissioning District Metered Areas (DMAs). So far, 1,807.68 km of pipelines have been completed, 29 reservoirs are functional, and 55 DMAs are delivering continuous supply.
Of the 1.5 lakh households targeted, 90,395 already receive uninterrupted water, while 23,230 continue to face intermittent service; officials expect one lakh households to be covered within this month. Concerns remain about road restoration, as underground drainage (UGD) and other infrastructure works have caused pipeline damage.. Despite these challenges, officials expressed confidence in achieving full-scale continuous water supply by early 2026.
