DCM Shriram has envisaged plans to expand caustic soda capacity from 5,08,000 tpa to 8,13,000 tpa at Jhagadia in Bharuch district of Gujarat.
The expansion will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 1,070 crore to be funded through bank loan. The project will generate employment for 250 persons during operation phase.
The expansion will augment capacity of the following products -- chlorine with a capacity of 7,15,696 tpa, hydrogen with a capacity of 21,671 tpa, sodium hypochlorite with a capacity of 38,986 tpa and so on. The project also involves capacity expansion of captive thermal power plant to 242 MW.
In May 2019, the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority Gujarat (SEIAA) accorded terms of reference (ToR) for the project.
As per the latest update available with Projects Today, DCM Shriram is awaiting environment clearance (EC). The work is expected to commence by October 2020, with a completion slated in December 2021.
