Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), which handles Kandla port has agreed in principle to allot 600-1,000 acres for the greenfield airport. This is in line with the land management policy for this port. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) would fund the project when the land is available.
Rearding the identified land parcels, DPA can give it on a 60-year lease. AAI has already prepared a master plan for 2049 for air connectivity to Kutch, taking into account the industrial and tourism development of Kutch and submitted to the state government two months ago.
At present, only two flights of 78-seater aircraft operate from Kandla airport, and the terminal capacity is 250 to 300 passengers.
