The Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation project in Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh is getting delay on account of land acquisition.
The project, namely Dr B R Ambedkar Pranahitha - Chevella Sujala Sravanthi Lift Irrigation is still in the process of land acquisition. The issue is pending with the state forest department. The forest department have refused to take the compensatory land offered by the irrigation authorities at Dhemikalan village of Thadwai mandal and the issue has not yet been settled.
The works for which the government has taken up is estimated to cost around Rs 3,483 crore were divided into three packages - 20, 21 and 22. The project requires 316 acres forest land including 116 acres and 200 acres in packages 21 and 22 respectively. While work on all the three packages are in progress, the tunnel works in forest lands have not commenced due to delay in land acquisition.
