In a significant push to improve the ease of doing business, the Delhi government has announced a drastic reduction in the approval timeline for the consent to operate over 65 green category industries—from 120 days to just 20 days.
Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that if no decision is made within this 20-day period, the applications will be automatically approved. Sirsa described this move as a critical step towards dismantling the "licence raj" and fostering a trust-based governance model.
The reform targets non-polluting and low-risk sectors, including apparel manufacturing (without dyeing or bleaching), aluminium and PVC products, ayurvedic medicine manufacturing (without boilers), cold storage, wooden and steel furniture, optical goods, confectionery (with electric ovens), toy assembly, soap and detergent units, battery containers, and cardboard manufacturing.
Starting from August, green industries will no longer require mandatory approvals from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, eliminating delays that previously hampered MSMEs. Sirsa added, "Delhi is open for responsible business."
