The final pending station of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor at Sarai Kale Khan is set to commence operations on 17 September, which will coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

With its launch, travel time between Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut will be reduced to under an hour, covering all intermediate stops. Trial runs on the 82-km corridor between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram have already been conducted, while the currently operational 55-km stretch runs from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, serving 11 stations.

The Sarai Kale Khan station will function as a multimodal hub, integrating bus terminals, metro networks, and railways. Measuring 215 mtrs. in length, 50 mtrs. in width, and 15 mtrs. in height, it will link three RRTS corridors. Developed under the “Make in India” initiative, the Rs 30,000 crore project uses trainsets designed in Hyderabad and manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Gujarat. It is expected to boost public transport share from 37 percent to 63 percent.
