The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved the construction of a four-lane underpass at the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) junction, modelled after the Metro Cinema underpass at Marine Lines.
The initiative aims to decongest heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours, while providing safe, accident-free pedestrian crossings. Administrative approval has been granted, and a consultant appointed to expedite work. The decision was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by Mumbai North West MP Ravindra Waikar and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, which reviewed over 30 civic and infrastructure issues.
Among the key outcomes, Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Hospital will be affiliated with Cooper Hospital, with its ICU capacity expanding from 12 to 22 beds following new doctor appointments. On the redevelopment front, Topiwala Market is set for completion by June 2026, with Versova and Yari Road market tenders to be floated soon.
