ENGIE has been awarded 280 MW/560 MWh of battery storage capacity in a recent auction by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL), part of India's two GW/ fourGWh national tender.
This award marks the company's formal entry into utility-scale storage in India and is one of the largest battery energy storage system (BESS) allocations in the country to date. With this contract, ENGIE’s India portfolio now totals around 2.75 GW, reinforcing its role in India’s clean energy goals. The BESS project will help address peak loads, integrate renewable energy more smoothly, and support the nation’s grid modernisation efforts.
"This marks a significant step in our commitment to accelerating the shift towards a future-ready renewable power system in India," said the company in its release. ENGIE aims to deploy 95 GW of renewable and storage capacity globally by 2030.
