Passengers from Hyderabad and Secunderabad travelling to New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Vijayawada will soon benefit from faster and smoother journeys as the government has sanctioned eight rail-over-rail (ROR) projects in South Central Railway (SCR).
With an investment of Rs 6,584 crore, these RORs are designed to reduce delays on high-traffic routes like Hyderabad–New Delhi, Secunderabad–Guntur, Kacheguda– Bengaluru, and Warangal–Vijayawada by diverting freight trains away from passenger lines. Currently, cross-movement forces stoppages in one direction to allow passage from the other, slowing down services.
The new ROR flyovers will enable simultaneous reception and dispatch, improving average train speeds, operational efficiency, and passenger convenience. At present, SCR has 11 RORs, including six within Hyderabad.
The sanctioned plan also includes two bypass lines worth over Rs 1,950 crore under the Outer Ring Rail and Warangal corridor. Notably, a 37-km bypass with RORs at Nashkal and Chintalapalli will streamline express trains bound for New Delhi, while an ROR at Pagidipalli will reduce 20–30 minute delays for Chennai, Guntur, and Vijayawada services.
