In a bid to expedite the Gurugram Metro project, the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) demolished eight houses in Naharpur Rupa village, Sector 33, to clear land for Gurugram Metro Rail (GMRL).
Officials said public announcements were made two days earlier asking residents to vacate, as the houses were “illegally constructed” on acquired land. However, owners of two houses secured a district court stay around 4pm, halting the drive. The next hearing is set for August 25.
The land, spanning 25 acres, had been earmarked for a Transport Nagar but is now being allotted for a metro casting yard. “The metro project is very crucial for the city... We will be presenting our case strongly,” said Gian Chand Saini, HSVP. Administrator Vaishali Singh added, “We have managed to resolve at least 30 infrastructure bottlenecks... more is being done.”
