Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that the proposed six-lane elevated corridor between Maduravoyal and Sriperumbudur on NH-48, costing Rs 600 crore, will receive approval by January 2026.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for three major NH projects in Puducherry worth Rs 2,050 crore, he highlighted 10 percent progress on the Chennai Port–Maduravoyal corridor and assured that the Chennai–Bengaluru Expressway would be completed within six months, cutting travel time to two hours. Projects inaugurated include the Rs 1,558 crore Puducherry–Poondianguppam bypass, a Rs 436 crore flyover between Rajiv Gandhi Square and Indira Gandhi Square, and a Rs 25 crore road upgrade at Ganapathi Chettikulam.
Additional announcements covered a three km elevated corridor from Natesan Nagar to Marapalam and a 13.5 km four-lane section between Ariyankuppam and Mullodai at Rs 650 crore. The Union Minister Gadkari also revealed land acquisition has begun for the Rs 2,200 crore, 46-km Puducherry– Marakkanam flyover.
