The Essel Group is mulling invest close to Rs 500 crore to expand operations
under its education portfolio by 2015.
The group plans to set up 300 schools over a period of next five years. These
schools are likely to be a combination of group owned and franchise models.
The group has already invested Rs 100 crore for setting up 50 schools under
Zee Learn brand across India, some of which will be owned by Essel and the
others through franchisee models.
The proposed investment plan also includes the group's first university -
Himgiri Nabh Vishwavidyalaya - being set up in Uttarakhand. The university
spanning over 60 acre is likely to be opened by December 2011. Currently,
construction work is underway.
