The Tamil Nadu government has completed the first phase of land acquisition for the proposed greenfield airport at Parandur, with 17.52 acres transferred to the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).
A total of 19 landowners, including eight locals and 11 non-locals from five villages, handed over their land following a direct negotiation meeting chaired by the Kancheepuram District Collector. A compensation of Rs 9.22 crore was credited directly to the bank accounts of the landowners as part of the settlement. This follows the Tamil Nadu government’s recent notification of a structured compensation package for acquiring land for Chennai’s second airport.
The approved rates range from Rs 35 lakh to Rs 2.58 crore per acre, determined by the Guideline Land Value (GLV), current market rates, and direct negotiations. The entire airport project requires the acquisition of 3,774.1 acres of patta land and 1,972.17 acres of government land. Compensation for land is categorised based on GLV, with parcels valued between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 17 lakh per acre receiving between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 60 lakh per acre.
