The NHAI is likely to built five new bypass roads as part of the development
of the Trichy-Karaikudi National Highway under NHDP Phase III-A in Tamil Nadu.
About 421.5 ha is to be acquired for developing the highway. Nearly 80 per
cent of the land acquisition process has been completed and pre-construction
works have already begun. The highways will run for a distance of about 110 km
when completed. It is to be developed on an annuity basis at a cost of Rs 374
crore with two lanes and paved shoulders. The project has been awarded to
Transstroy-OJSC Consortium.
The project involves construction of a new bypass road connecting three major
national highways, the Trichy-Thanjavur NH 67, the Trichy-Pudukottai-Karaikudi
NH 210 and the Trichy-Madurai NH 45B on the outskirts of Trichy. This bypass
will be a semi-ring road which will be connecting Thuvakudi, Mathur and
Panchapur on the three highways.
This apart, four other by-pass roads will be built as part of the project at
Keeranur, Pudukkottai, Tirumayam and Karaikudi.
