The Kerala Government is drawing out a plan for developing five small ports
across the coast.
There are 17 notified ports in the state idling. Of them, Azheekal, Beypore,
Ponnani, Alappuzha and Thangasserry ports are in the priority list to be revived
and developed for small vessel modern shipping.
The Azheekal port entailing an investment of Rs 560 crore is proposed to be
developed stage by stage, synchronising with the projected increase in cargo
movement to and from its hinterland that include Kannur and Kasargode districts
and parts of Kozhikode and Wayanad districts in Kerala and Coorg in Karnataka.
