MK Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on 1 February 2010, laid the
foundation stone of the plant being set up by Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator,
a JV between JSW Energy and Japan based Toshiba Corporation.
The facility entailing a cost of Rs 800 crore at Chennai is likely to
manufacture super-critical steam turbines and generators for thermal power
plants in India.
Under Phase I, production is likely to begin in January 2011 and initially,
the unit will produce steam turbine and generator (STG) parts. By 2012, it is
expected to start manufacturing STG sets and expects to achieve a production
capacity of 3,000 MW per annum by 2014.
