On 23 June, 2017, foundation stone was laid for widening of the Mumbai-Goa highway in Kudal, Sindhudurg.
The project worth Rs 4,470.72 crore envisages four laining of the Mumbai-Goa highway.
Public Works Department (PWD) will execute the project. The rehabilitation and upgradation of 154 km of the highway includes 36 km section from Parshuram Ghat to Arawali and 35 km stretch from Waked to Talgaon, besides the 39 km Talgaon-to-Kalmath and 44 km Kalmath-to-Zarap sections in Sindhudurg.
An investment of Rs three lakh crore is kept for Konkan, of which Rs one lakh crore had already been invested. The project will generate employment opportunities for 1.25 lakh people.
The roll-on, roll-off (RO-RO) water transport facility will be extend to Kerala via Goa from Bhaucha Dhaka in Mumbai.
In addition, an eco-friendly double-decker bus service is being planned from Mumbai and Ratnagiri to Goa. Detailed project report is being prepared for jetties across creeks of Konkan. The project will be developed on the lines of rivers ports on the Ganga.
