The Union Ministry of Shipping has allocated Rs 300 crore to the Indian
Maritime University in Tamil Nadu for the next five years to create
infrastructure facilities.
The facilities include academic complex, administrative building, library,
hostels and residential accommodation for faculty and staff.
The Union Minister for Shipping, G K Vasan, on 6 March 2010, performed bhoomi
pooja of the university's academic and administrative complex buildings at
Semmanchery. The new complex is expected to be completed in a year's time.
