Leading natural gas transporter GAIL India has tied up with US-based LanzaTech to explore setting up a carbon capture and conversion pilot project.
The collaboration with LanzaTech will the gas utility firm to move ahead with its plans to implement sustainability-driven operations through interventions which enhance its environmental focus and stance.
LanzaTech’s carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology allows for bio-recycling wherein the proprietary bacteria will consume carbon-rich pollution and convert it into chemicals to create rubber, plastics and others. These materials lend themselves in making clothing, laundry detergent, and sustainable aviation fuel.
GAIL India, which aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2040, has a strong focus on building capacity in alternative energy, wind energy projects and solar energy projects.
