GKN Fokker Elmo has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to set up second manufacturing facility for wiring interconnection systems in Pune, Maharashtra.
The company will make an investment of USD 10 million. The new facility, a fully- owned GKN Aerospace business, will commence production in the first quarter of 2019.
The workforce is expected to grow to 800 in 2027. This will be the first aerospace facility fully-owned by the company in India.
The manufacturing unit will focus on the assembly of wiring systems for commercial aircraft and will operate in cooperation with the the existing facility for wiring systems in Bengaluru which is serving the defence market.
It also involves installation of its proprietary wiring design and manufacturing system which comprises a unique tool that is rolled out at all manufacturing locations worldwide to ensure the same quality is available everywhere across plants.
